Focus on the Organizations
Based in Coral Gables, Florida Footprints Foundation's local and global mission is to reduce maternal and infant mortality and morbidity with culturally sensitive evidence based training of doctors, nurses, midwives, traditional birth attendants and pregnant mothers, stop Female Genital Mutilation and child marriages.
“I grew up in a family where you did for others” says Lorna Owens. After many years as a nurse Owens became a lawyer; working first as a Miami Dade County Prosecutor then finally opening her own law practice, practicing in the area of criminal and entertainment law. 6 years ago she was watching CNN and saw Anderson Cooper do a piece called Rape as a Weapon of War. It told the story of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It showed over 2 million women were raped and as a result of these gang rapes the women developed Fistulas causing them to leak urine and feces. She cried and cried but true to form she decided to do something about it. She formed a Non Profit called Footprints Foundation. “The idea is that we will be saving women’s lives one little footprint at a time”. Save a Sato
Frank Polanco has been a huge advocate in
animal rescue. Having rescued two satos (stray dogs) himself from Puerto Rico nine years ago Frank couldn't forget about the vast population of homeless dogs still remaining all over the island. Frank has made it is own personal mission to help raise awareness to this situation not only in Puerto Rico here at home and every where he can.
After devasting hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, Frank knew he had to help. Using social media he immediately created and put into effect a pet
food drive collecting food to sentd to help the animals at save a sato.
On December 2017, Frank decided to fly to Puerto Rico and pay a visit to save a sato. Part of the visit was to also organized the the relocation of some dogs to a local shelter in Florida. A project he was heavily involved in the making.
This trip was a SAVE A SATO mission for Frank. An opportunity to finally meet its founder Ms. Gloria Marti and be able to learn from her more about their daily activities at the shelter. While there he was able to feed the doggies and kittens, helped clean their cages, document the daily ongoings etc.
Today, Frank is getting stronger and knowing the devastating situation in Puerto Rico and right here in our own backyards in South Florida he knows that his mission now more than ever has to stand strong.Frank continues working hard for the animals. Next on his agenda, is a fundraiser with a purpose of been able to pay for the cargo shipping of some twelve cages donated to him. The cages are in New York and will need to be shippped to Save A Sato in Puerto Rico. To learn more and or to make donations please visit this facebook fundraiser link.
